WOR-TEL Network

The WOR-TEL Network is a high-performance global network specifically designed to deliver Internet communications services. Created with a carrier class information-switching architecture, the WOR-TEL Network delivers optimal performance by routing communications across several servers around the world. The result is a high-performance network that is unmatched for secure, reliable, fast, real-time Internet communications. WOR-TEL is the only company to develop and deploy a globally distributed information- switching network specifically designed for the delivery of interactive Web communications services.

Network bandwidth is always a consideration when using applications and tools that provide productivity efficiencies across geographies via intranets as well as the Internet. WOR-TEL Communications has built its core foundation on providing services that use public and private networks. The performance of a WOR-TEL session has dependencies we can control within the WOR-TEL interactive network and some we can not control that depend on the user bandwidth capacity whether within a corporate network or home computing infrastructure. The purpose of this paper is to provide data on the network bandwidth generated as a result of sharing data, video and voice-over IP telephony in WOR-TEL meeting services.

WOR-TEL services produce data streams that vary depending on a number of factors including – the type of application being shared, the complexity of the graphics, the use of voice over IP, the use of video, etc.

WOR-TEL services create network traffic only when there is activity like slides changing, desktop sharing, video, etc. Otherwise, if there is no activity in the meeting (viewing a slide), then very little network traffic is generated.

There are intermittent spikes in the network traffic during intense activity, with a return to low bandwidth use when there is no activity. This behavior is similar to standard file traffic on the network.

With the WOR-TEL Network:

  • Latency and interruptions in multipoint interactive meetings are minimized, even when participants are located in different countries.
  • Participants may call to any telephone for the audio portion of their meeting.

The WOR-TEL Platform Provides:

  • Administrative capabilities, such as scheduling, provisioning and billing.
  • Capabilities for session management, conference control and communications.
  • Rich features, such as application sharing, video, white boarding and VoIP.
  • Efficient A/V servers, large MCU servers, proxy servers, worldwide distributed back-up servers for all our Telco and Enterprise customers

Optimized Bandwidth Usage

WOR-TEL services perform several adaptive optimizations to ensure that it minimizes the amount of data transmitted over the network. This reduces network congestion, maximizes performance and improves the user experience.

Some of the most significant optimizations are listed below.

  • Compression

All large data transfers and file uploads are compressed. This not only reduces network traffic, it also adds a level of ‘encryption’ to the data stream. Our proprietary codec is 4 to 10 times the compression of MPEG 4. At current average changes of 1MB of transmission at 1 US cent, network providers and customers could appreciate the much lowest cost.

  • Incremental Update

During application sharing, the contents of the window are dynamic. VFON services incrementally updates in both video and static shared images only those portions of the screen that have changed.

  • Adaptive Bandwidth Control

VFON and VMEET can automatically sense the overall network’s bandwidth in addition to any changes in the bandwidth limit and control the data transmission rate to reduce chances for packet loss, therefore providing maximum performance with excellent quality.
